Kanna

Sceletium tortuosum (Kougoed, Kaugoed, Channa, Kanna)

Sceletium tortuosum flowerSceletium Tortuosum is a small groundcover plant native to Southern Africa. For hundreds of years the Hottentots of Southern Africa used Sceletium tortuosum as a mood enhancer, relaxant and empathogen. Dr Nigel Gericke, who is spearheading research into Sceletium tortuosum in South Africa, believes that “Sceletium is one of the most ancient of mind-altering substances, and it is likely to have had a profound influence on the evolution of human consciousness.”

Historically Sceletium tortuosum was eaten/chewed, smoked or used as snuff producing euphoria and alertness which gently fade into relaxation. If chewed in sufficient quantity Sceletium has a mild aneasthetic effect in the mouth, much like kava, and is used by the San tribes if you are about to have a tooth extracted, or in minute doses, for children with colic. A tea made from Sceletium (Kanna) is sometimes used to wean alcoholics off alcohol.

Thunberg, during his 1773 expedition reported: “The Hottentots come far and near to fetch this shrub with the root, leaves and all, which they beat together, and afterwards twist them up like pig-tail tobacco; after which they let the mass ferment and keep it by them for chewing, especially when they are thirsty. If chewed after fermentation, it intoxicates.” Laidler in 1928 noted that Sceletium Tortuosum was “chewed and retained in the mouth for a while, when their spirits would rise, eyes brighten and faces take on a jovial air, and they would commence to dance. But if indulged in to excess, it robbed them of their senses and they became intoxicated.

The main active chemical in Kanna is mesembrine, which is also found in the Slender-Leaved Ice Plant.

We offer Sceletium tortuosum (Kanna) powder, seed, pharmeceutical grade Kanna powder and seeds.

WARNING! Kanna is believed to act as a Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI). In combination with common psychiatric medications including other SSRIs (such as Prozac) and MAO Inhibitors, it may cause injury if it was ingested.

Trichocereus macrogonus

Google News | Cactus, Gardening, And Landscape Information | Tuesday, September 16th, 2003

Trichocereus macrogonus

Tricocereus macrogonus. \” Big Mac \”. Incredibly huge fast growning Tricos. With all those amazing beautiful characteristics of Peruvian highland cacti. The deep aqua marine hue, the amazing diameter and heft. Growing so fast that 2 feet per year is common , sometimes splitting their own skin.

Uncommon in collections but so true in character to the illusive \”mystery\” peruvianus that macrogonus are sure to become one of the most desirable of the Tricos.

 A little customer feedback :

Hello,
I would like to thank you for my recent order of one Trichocereus macrogonus cutting. I have to say that I have always been pleased with the cactus cuttings I have received in the past, but upon opening my order and seeing the size of these Trichocereus macrogonus cuttings I find it hard to believe they were so cheap. These things are monsters! My only disappointment was that I didn\’t have the money to purchase more. Thank you.

Saguaro

Google News | Cactus, Gardening, And Landscape Information | Tuesday, September 16th, 2003

Saguaro

Carnegia gigantea (Saguaro)

The saguaro cactus has been described as the monarch of the Sonoran Desert, as a prickly horror, as the supreme symbol of the American Southwest, and as a plant with personality.

The Saguaro is renowned for the variety of odd, all-too-human shapes it assumes, shapes that inspire wild and fanciful imaginings.

Saguaro are found only in the Sonoran desert. The giant saguaro is the king of cacti. A full-grown saguaro is usually more than 35 feet in height and is at least 75 years old, sometimes reaching a height of 50 feet and life span of 200 years. Some have arms but all are green and have a wax-like skin that helps prevent water loss. Rare and endangered this extraordinary giant cactus has been protected within Saguaro National Park since 1933.

Kratom

Google News | Cactus, Gardening, And Landscape Information | Sunday, September 14th, 2003

Kratom

Thailand Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa)

Recently there has been a lot of controversy about Kratom. And there has been a lot of false Kratom sold in the market. There are other species of Mitragyna being sold as Kratom simply because it was “certified” as mitragyna. In addition, researchers have found that there are different strains of kratom plants that can vary tremendously. Our Kratom  is true Mitragyna speciosa.

Over 25 alkaloids have been isolated from Kratom; the principle one being mitragynine, an indole alkaloid superficially resembling yohimbine (Found in Yohimbe bark). In addition to being used as a narcotic in its own right, it is often used to moderate and beat addiction to Opium. Some use Kratom to prolong sexual intercourse.

We offer three types of Kratom:

Kratom from Thailand is a high-quality red-veined strain imported from Thailand. The foliage is crushed to small pieces, but not completely powdered.

Kratom from Malaysia is another red-veined Kratom that has been finely powdered. This isn’t quite as high-quality as the Thailand Kratom, but is a great value for finely powdered kratom.

“Super Indo” Kratom from Indonesia is our newest offering and is the highest-quality. It is finely powdered and is about 25% more potent smelling than the Thailand strain.

Kratom from Hawaii is farm grown for us on the Big Island of Hawaii. These are mostly whole dried leaves.

We are now carrying live Kratom plants. Click here to purchase Live Kratom Plants!
